Bankers Wife

You should have been a Bankers wife,

You should have been a Bankers wife,

Though I love you very much, I have squandered all my luck,

And you should have been a banker’s wife.

We married very young and needing lots of luck

We went out and bought ourselves a truck

But the miles took their toll and forever in the hole

The bills were always bigger than the bucks

And you should have been a Bankers wife,

You should have been a Bankers wife,

Though I love you very much, I have squandered all my luck,

And you should have been a banker’s wife.

We first saw the sign of the doves upon the line

Then they flew down and touched us on the heart.

We didn’t know then, we’d ache and we’d pine

Each time life pulled us apart.

We scraped and scrimped and saved and finally built a farm,

But bad luck it dogged our every step!

Drought and wind and hail; BSE the final nail,

Killed our dream and sent us back in hock

And you should have been a Bankers wife,

You should have been a Bankers wife.

Though I love you very much, I have squandered all my luck,

And you should have been a banker’s wife.

Befriended by a man who sold us on his claim

High up in the mountains filled with gold

We now spend our days in that barren endless maze

..You and I are getting old.

We first saw the sign of the doves upon the line

Then they flew down and touched us on the heart.

We didn’t know then, we’d ache and we’d pine

Each time life pulled us apart.

And you should have been a Bankers wife,

You should have been a Bankers wife,

Though I love you very much, I have squandered all my luck,

And you should have been a banker’s wife.
